Week Three.

Have to get back to work... much to do... but I wanted to stop on and continue with my weekly updates. Managed to finally get some stuff up on Etsy, which was fun and easy.

Finished another commission (see monster images), it's a copy of another image I did for the last show. A friend of mine wanted to buy it, mis-communication and a third party ended up having it sold to another, but I had fun going back to work on the idea again. I've always known I couldn't be a cartoonist of any merit, what with my complete inability to draw something the same twice. There is always something new to explore! So it was really fun for me to see a totally new image come out of that little thumbnail/idea.

I also set about working some more ideas for the family portrait. I've never worked so long on an idea before... I'm starting to get antsy. I'm sure it's good for me, I rarely put in enough thought before I'm painting and signing a piece... but I'm also used to moving on to the next project by the end of the day. Uggggg. I should get used to this.. it's good for me. I wanna paaaaaaint it!! Whatever it looks like... paint paint paint!

*coughs*

okay, back to work I go.

Week Two.

Life continues to be good, though I think we'll have some trouble finding the tables under all the thread and Sculpey scraps. I finished two dolls, but somehow little else... hmmm. I have worked on a commission this week, mostly in the mornings. It's not my 'usual' style, which has been some good fun. I don't really think I'll get too many chances in the next few weeks to work on other projects so out of my norm... I seriously can't wait to start painting it.

My next plan is to do a series of small images and valentines day themed cards... and then I should be ready to 'lauch' on the'ol'Etsy. Maybe start a strange creature doll... I'm not sure what people like... I'm certain it's not what I make XD But maybe I can talk myself into making a fairy faerie... or something. I can't say I don't like wings... I just normally like them feathered. ;)

I'll toss up the sketches of the cute little Dream Herders I've been wanting to make for awhile. They're kinda little impish guys who carry about these funny little puff things and I guess they help to direct dreams... I guess dreams can be like sheep... but probably only in certain places. They're sort of like tour guides for the dreaming. They're cute.

Oh! Started a Twitter thingy. Just in case you want to know exactly how much glue I have stuck to my fingers and what I'm having for lunch... though I suppose I could answer those questions now: more than can be safe and oatmeal. MMmmm... oats.

Goat Guy '09

Hey, folks... a little update on the stuff-for-Etsy making... isn't he awesome? Well, I'm pleased to no end! I think I'll call him Fitzjarrald. His scarf is a green wool with a stone detail... his jewelery is copper and wood. The silk on his arms and legs is stained with tea and paint. For some reason I think he'll collect sea shells...

I'd best get back to work.

Week One.

A week has gone by and I've finished more of my story tham I have managed to put down in the five years I've been here. I feel like I haven't felt in ages... I feel like myself. I know much of what I do is completely silly and probably has no audience, but -I- am so happy!

This story has been kicking around my head since the first snow-fall of our time here in State College. The characters have been going endlessly in circles until... now... and I feel like all the pieces are falling together. Though, heck knows if they are. ;) I'll need to pester my sisters/editors to read the first 100 pages (<- okay, it's 91, but the day has just begun!).

Next week I'll begin things that have substance other than words offer... I really can't wait to have a shop full of items on Etsy! Dolls and pictures and plush monsters and jewelry, hazzah! Once that's done... I'll begin illustrating my story! Vanity publishing... here I come!

*The picture with this post was a commission... my first attempt at a Pern dragon... unless you count those fire lizard doodles back in middle school...? The dragon is gold and shiny, but the scanner hates gold and shiny...

My 'first' day of unemployment

Suppose I could have titled this: the professional artist life begins...

So I took my own advice (see previous post's note about a day to make a doll..) and decided the best thing for me do to for my sanity, if not my bank account, was to dedicate my self to my art. I suppose people have done more foolish things. But I feel ready for the challenge... and as I have always been my harshest critic... this is saying something!

Novel update: reached page 60 of the story!
