Project Kirin/ simple selfish creature creator
I'm sure I've rambled about my plans to just pick one of the mythical creature books I have sitting around.... okay - the only one I have - which is sitting behind me - and just make whatever page I turned to? These always seem like good ideas - right? I mean.... I've had worse! But then I turn to the page all about that dratted Rain Bird; the Shang-Yang (normally this is the point where I'd link you to a wiki page, but it seems even wiki has yet to hear of this creature) and I think: "Who in the world wants a one legged bird figure?".
And so~ I'm kinda back to where I was last year, eh? But! But! Loyal reader(s)~! If I create things wholly and totally for me~! I'd have no where to put them! Honestly! I'm shelfless.
And the true trouble here is that I don't want to make for me... I've never really made for me. When I was in elementary school - friendless and strange - I would carry around a wicker purse of colored pencils and with that portable art studio I would draw a new creature - wholly new - for my favorite science teacher - Mr. Greep (sp?) and after awhile he began to hang them around the room - and soon they made a full loop around me and all my fellow students. (This, of course, completely endeared me to aaaalll the other kids >< XP *sigh*) /digress
And even into middle school - I sketched and gifted. I painted for the plays~ year after year painting over what I'd done the year before. (rocks. We painted a TON of rocks) My poor highschool friend Meg - piled under images - her walls covered in characters and bits of unfinished stories... I remember the first drawing I really didn't want to give away - I was in college.... I gave all the others in the set away - and when someone asked me for it - I paused - the first time EVER - and then gave it away as well.
I think it is just part of what motivates me as an artist - the desire to share with others... To make them happy and so make me happy.. Selfish? Sure. Simple? Totally. But I'm a simple selfish creature creator...

Scales and Fur and Wings, oh my!
I'm totally happy with him~ he's a little over three feet~ but he stands so well ~ even sits with ease.
Though.. if I ever make another standardish dragon... he'll have to be sipping a cup of tea... That or have have at least six legs and and feathered wings~
I painted a little bit of his fur~ I really should do that more often. Kinith had some painted fabrics and so have the last two ladies - the strips on the leggings and Cora's coat... I think paint is really something I should add to each of my dolls...
But who/what to make next!? I know I should be writing or sketching... but I want to sculpt~! Maybe some traditional creatures? I woke up thinking of the kappa. There seemed to be some demand on Facebook for characters from the Dark Crystal~ though I'd want to make Aughra (she's so awesome!! But I doubt many share my love of the crazy eyed - goat horned - wise lady). Oh! I could finally get to that mermaid I've wanted to make... or pull from this wall of sketches I keep adding to... Or should I create another one of my girls? They seem to be doing well :D And many thanks to those how are following my creations~ means the world to me that I can share what I love to make with you lovely lot!
Back soon with something new + paint covered~
